Architectural Marmite ?
A photo I took several years ago is going to be featured in an architecture book. The picture itself is of the Muirhead tower, arguably once of the ugliest buildings at the University of Birmingham. It's certainly fair to say most people, particularly those who work in it tend hate it.
The building itself is the subject of much student folk-lore,supposedly being built at the wrong angle. It has also been covered in scaffolding for the past decade, apparently to stop the windows falling out in high wind.
The picture is to be used to illustrate an example of contemporary university architecture of its time.
The book is about an unrealised development proposal for Stoke called the potteries thinkbelt. I was contacted through flickr, where the picture is shared and asked for permission for its use.
The topic of the book seems a strange coincidence having lived in stoke myself, but i guess its a small world.
- i have now added a link for my flickr account to this blog
